At Baker & Daniels, each associate has the potential to become a partner of the firm. As a result, we are committed to the professional development of each associate. Each associate has a partner supervisor, who works closely with the associate to plan and coordinate the associate's professional development. In addition to project-to-project feedback, each entry-level associate is formally evaluated annually. Salary reviews and bonus determinations also are made on an annual basis.

Practicing law at Baker & Daniels has provided opportunities to work with talented and dedicated attorneys since the firm's beginning. Baker & Daniels was founded in 1863 by then-U.S. Senator Thomas A. Hendricks, who later served as Governor of Indiana and Vice President of the United States under Grover Cleveland. The first Baker at the firm was Conrad Baker, who also served as Governor of Indiana. Senator Evan Bayh was a Baker & Daniels partner before his election to the U.S. Senate. Other former partners include Stephen Goldsmith, former Mayor of Indianapolis; Pam Carter, the first African-American female State Attorney General in the country; and Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, a firm partner before taking a senior position at Eli Lilly and Company. One former partner is and another was a Justice of the Indiana Supreme Court. In 2008, former partners became athletic director at the University of Notre Dame and Indiana University.

Baker & Daniels' lawyers also have a long tradition of involvement in public service on the local level. The firm's attorneys serve on the boards of a broad array of civic, charitable, social service and arts organizations in the communities where they work and live.
