Fort Wayne: City of Adventure and Fun

Fort Wayne is filled with amenities and opportunities not often found in communities larger than its size. For starters, Indiana’s second largest city enhances quality of life and leisure time with 87 parks covering 2,200 acres. Fort Wayne is full of exciting adventure and family fun with parks of all sizes, community classes and programs for all ages, golf courses, greenway trails, a botanical conservatory, swimming pools, an ice arena, classic theatres and a nature preserve.

The crown jewels may be the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, one of the nation’s finest places for children to get up close and personal with the wild kingdom: or the largest public genealogy research library in America.

Fort Wayne hosts a number of unique indoor and outdoor shopping centers, a wide variety of restaurants, top-notch art venues and programs, interactive museums, touring Broadway shows and community festivals. Glenbook Square is Indiana's largest indoor shopping mall, surrounded by a plethora of restaurants.

Fort Wayne has a historic sports culture. Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal ranked the city as the best place in America for minor league sports, painting a picture of consistency by franchises and fans. Out of 242 markets, the publication placed Fort Wayne No. 1 based on number of franchises and their longevity, attendance and economic factors. Fort Wayne fields semi-professional teams in football, basketball, hockey, baseball and soccer. The Allen County War Memorial Coliseum & Exposition Center continues to build on a tradition that dates back to the days of industrialist Fred Zollner, founder of the National Basketball Association and the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons (now the Detroit Pistons). The venue has housed the Fort Wayne Komets’ hockey club every season since it began in 1952. More recently, three NCAA Men’s Volleyball Championships have been contested at the Memorial Coliseum, as well as many other special events.

Located in northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne – where the St. Joseph, St. Marys and Maumee rivers join – offers easy access to nine major Midwest cities. It is only a one-tank trip to Indianapolis, Chicago, Detroit and Cincinnati.
